The Challenge
The galvanising lines have run at the same nameplate since 2016 and the order book is larger than the nameplate, so every changeover hour recovered has an order waiting for it. Today the running order is chosen by experienced planners under time pressure, and there are far too many possible orders to compare by hand.
How It Works
- Reads and connects the source records named in the proposal.
- A ranked order in which to run the released coils on CGL1, CGL2 and the cold mill, with the changeover, zinc-pot transition and lateness cost of each option beside it, and a nesting plan against the widths available. When a customer asks to move an order, the same desk says what the change costs before anyone accepts it in SAP. The planner still decides; the desk shows the price of each choice, as a proposal in the planner's own screen.
- Publishes a source-linked recommendation for Production Planner approval and records the decision.
What It Removes
- A running order chosen from memory
- Amendments accepted before they are costed
- Changeover hours nobody counts
