The Challenge

A surface problem is judged by eye, and different inspectors judge differently. When a customer rejects a coil the question is always what went wrong and when, and answering it means going back through shift records and asking people to remember. The same problems keep coming back, which is where the money is.

How It Works

  • Reads and connects the source records named in the proposal.
  • Every coil's surface judgement is recorded the same way against that coil, with severity and location, and linked back to what the line was doing at the time. The engine ranks recurring defect causes against the process signals that precede them, so the cause is named rather than guessed. Results post against the coil's batch in SAP QM. No published document says AGIS runs automated inspection, so cameras are Phase B, released only if imagery is stored.
  • Publishes a source-linked recommendation for Quality Engineer approval and records the decision.

What It Removes

  • A defect judged differently by each shift
  • Causes guessed from memory
  • The same claim arriving twice
