Yield Ledger. Where the tonne went.

The ledger follows every tonne of hot rolled coil from receipt to the day the prime coil ships, and puts a name on each loss along the way.

The Challenge

SAP records what steel went in and what prime coil came out. It does not say what happened in between. Losses to crop, trim, off-gauge, visual defects and transition coils are known in total and not by cause, so the same loss repeats because nobody named it. Published cold-rolling loss runs at 3 to 5 per cent.

How It Works

  • Reads and connects the source records named in the proposal.
  • The ledger follows every tonne of hot rolled coil from receipt to the day the prime coil ships, and puts a name on each loss along the way. It ranks losses by cause, grade, supplier lot and line condition, flags the week a line's yield drifts with the coils behind it, and writes the Operations Head a short weekly note. Per-supplier-lot yield goes to procurement. This is the fastest build in the pack: it reads SAP records that already exist.
  • Publishes a source-linked recommendation for Operations Head approval and records the decision.

What It Removes

  • Loss known in total, never by cause
  • The same loss repeating each month
  • Supplier lots nobody ranks
