Track Tubulars and Materials to Location to stop the next section waiting on a missing item

Tracks every string, tool and consumable the next section needs against where it actually is, and raises the gap while there is still time to move it.

The Challenge

Sodir Resource Report 2017 puts well services at about 30 per cent of the cost of a production well drilled with a mobile unit, and materials sit inside that pool. There is no public NCS figure for materials carrying cost or for the cost of a rig day lost to a missing item, so the engine claims neither. What it can do is show, section by section, whether the string, the tool or the consumable is actually where the programme assumes it is.

How It Works

  • The engine lists every string, tool and consumable the next section needs, with the date it is needed on the rig.
  • It matches each item to where it physically is, at the mill, at the base, on a vessel or on the rig, and raises the gap while there is still time to move it.
  • It does not order or move anything; the Supply Chain Lead acts, and the engine gives the earliest possible warning.

What It Removes

  • Materials status held in supplier emails
  • Assumed availability of a critical string or tool
  • Late moves that need a special sailing
Input Data RequirementsThe well programme and section plans, bills of materials and tubular running lists, purchase orders and supplier delivery confirmations, supply base inventory and laydown records, vessel manifests and backload lists, and rig stock records.
Output FormatDashboard showing every item the next section needs, where it is, when it is needed and the gap in days.
“I do not want to find out on the rig floor that the string is still at the base.”
