The Challenge
Rehandles and idle equipment eat terminal capacity while trucks queue at the gate. It persists because yard position, equipment health and appointments live in different systems and the planner uses paper.
How It Works
- Reads terminal system moves, gate appointments, yard positions and equipment status.
- Sequences moves to cut rehandles, balances equipment and tests against vessel windows.
- Sends the shift planner a new move sequence and the reason whenever an assumption breaks.
What It Removes
- Whiteboard sequencing of the next shift's moves
- Manual reshuffling after an equipment breakdown
- Radio calls to locate a mis-stacked container
Input Data RequirementsTerminal operating system data, gate appointments, yard positions, crane and reach-stacker status, vessel and rail schedules, labour rosters
Output FormatRolling move sequence per shift, equipment allocation plan, and a rehandle and dwell-time report by yard block
“We rehandle the same box three times because the plan was written before the crane went down”
